Derby University

Derby University

Leicester, United Kingdom

About

Established in 1992, University of Derby is a Public University. Located in the city of Derby, England, the University is a modern, innovative education provider.  University of Derby’s recent success includes being ranked 1st for student support and faith provision, and 3rd for lecture quality, learning technology and employability, out of all the UK’s modern universities. University of Derby is home to 21,000 students, studying more than 300 different study programs. Undergraduate programs as well as short courses, foundation degrees and postgraduate degrees are offered to its student populace. With 949 international students, University of Derby provides a diverse environment to its students.

The University of Derby prides itself on offering a more supportive learning environment, with greater personal attention given to students than in other UK universities. Delivering a rewarding learning experience with the personal touch forms the core of what we do at Derby. That’s why over 85% of our classes have fewer than 30 students in them, and you have access to your personal tutor whenever you need it. We also believe in listening to our students so they are represented on all of the senior management committees.

We are dedicated to providing teaching that is informed by our research, and focused on delivering real world, experiential learning. This is why Derby moved up 29 places in The Guardian University Guide 2015 published by The Guardian newspaper. Our teaching is outstanding in several areas, and our ambition is to continue on this upward trend. Our graduates are contributing at the highest levels in their chosen professions. You will find Derby graduates everywhere: from the BBC’s Frozen Planet to the Natural History Museum; from Clothes Show Live to MIG bank; from re-inventing the wheelchair to leading corporate sustainability at the London Olympics.

Accomodation

Most first year students live in halls - they're just a short walk from our campuses and a great place to make friends. They offer you safe, good value accommodation with other students. On the other hand, if you’d prefer to rent a private property, we can help you find the right place through our registered private housing scheme. Together with the Council and the landlord, we assess all the properties registered so you can be confident they’ll be safe and comfortable.
