About 

Based in the city of Southampton, the University of Southampton is a British Russell Group university, founded in 1862 as Hartley Institution, and later gained University status in 1952. It owns six campuses - four in Southampton, one in Winchester, and another international branch in Malaysia. 

The University of Southampton is divided into eight faculties: Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Physical and Applied Sciences, and Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. 

According to the Times Higher Education Table, the University of Southampton has been named as one of the world's top 100 universities, whilst the QS World University Rankings in 2011 ranked the university 75th in the world, and Webometrics Ranking of World Universities ranked the university 32nd globally.

Campus Information 

The University of Southampton owns six campuses - four in Southampton, one in Winchester, and one international branch in Malaysia.

Highfield Campus
The main campus, only within a short walk from the city centre. The campus is well equipped with new and modern facilities, such as the Hartley Library, the Students' Union, Jubilee Sports Centre, bookshops, cafés and restaurants, a post office, and four major banks.

Avenue Campus
The campus houses the Faculty of Humanities, featuring its own library, lecture theatres and catering facilities. It is just a few minutes walk from Highfield Campus.

National Oceanography Centre Southampton
The campus is the base for the study of earth sciences and ocean.

Southampton General Hospital
The campus is the home for the University's Faculty of Medicine.

Winchester School of Art
It is 12 miles north of Southampton, featuring a library, Students' Union, specialist art and design studios, workshops, and The Winchester Gallery.

Malaysian Campus
Houses the engineering courses.
