Cork Institute of Technology is one of the most highly rated higher education colleges in Ireland, both in terms of facilities and in the great student-staff relations. Cork Institute of Technology offers the full range of higher education qualifications, including Bachelor degrees, Honours Bachelor degrees, and post-graduate Masters and PhD degrees. CIT has a very well developed 'ladder' structure to enable students to progress through the different levels of qualifications.

Cork Institute of Technology comprises two constituent Faculties and three constituent Colleges. The constituent Faculties are Engineering and Science, and Business and Humanities. The constituent colleges are the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, the CIT Cork School of Music and the National Maritime College of Ireland.

CIT has four principal campuses. The biggest is at Bishopstown, while CIT Crawford College of Art & Design (CIT - CCAD) and CIT Cork School of Music (CIT - CSM) are in downtown Cork City. The National Maritime College of Ireland is located in Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbovur.

The Bishoptown Campus
The Bishopstown Campus is the main centre, and is the location for courses in the fields of Business & Humanities, Science, Engineering and Technology. Also located here are Student Services, Administration, Research Centres and Industry Support Centres. The campus has been expanded and it now covers over eighty acres. It is equipped with lecture theatres, computer suites, laboratories, workshops, studios and classrooms. Several major building projects have been completed in recent years, transforming the whole campus environment.

The Student Centre includes all the services you could hope for, such as common room, restaurant, hairdressers, meeting rooms, supermarket and banks. The Student Centre also includes a medical clinic, a contemplative space, Students' Union offices, the careers and counselling service, sports and recreation service and a bookshop. The clubs and societies offices and many other services are also based in the Student Centre.

The award-winning Library and Information Technology Centre has Computer Laboratories, Seminar Rooms, and open access computer stations for hundreds of students. For sports lovers, there are extensive playing fields and sports facilities available. These include outdoor pitches, a championship standard athletics track, tennis courts and a synthetic all-weather pitch. Indoor sports and training are accommodated in a large and well-equipped sports hall and gym, centrally located on campus. 

CIT Crawford College of Art and Design 
Located in Sharman Crawford Street, CIT - CCAD is a self-contained campus of CIT. It is situated within walking distance of the city centre and about ten minutes drive from the Bishopstown Campus of the Institute. It offers well-recognised courses in Fine Art, Ceramic Design and Art & Design Education. Facilities include lecture rooms, library and spacious studios with personal work- spaces for students. There are well-equipped workshops and laboratories for an extensive range of specialist areas.

CIT Cork School of Music
CIT - CSM offers a complete music education at first, second, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The School provides both a four-year Honours Music Degree Course and a Taught Masters Course, and has research students studying for MA and PhD degrees. Performance is highly valued, and the school organises many bands, chamber music ensembles, choirs and orchestras. A new purpose-built home for the CIT Cork School of Music opened in September 2007 which provides the CIT Cork School of Music with 13,000 square metres of state-of-the-art facilities including a library, nearly 60 teaching/practice studios (all equipped with new Steinway grand pianos), a 450-seater auditorium, a 120-seater theatre, a professional recording studio and an electronic music studio.

National Maritime College of Ireland 
The National Maritime College of Ireland is located in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork. The NMCI provides world-class training facilities leading to advanced degrees and other qualifications in nautical science and marine engineering. The College has very sophisticated simulation equipment for navigation, bridge training, communications, machinery operations, cargo-handling and vessel traffic systems. These facilities fully comply with the latest international standards. Specialist areas including survival facilities, fire fighting and damage control, jetty and lifeboat facilities and engine rooms are provided. 

• The Main CIT campus is located in Bishopstown on the west of Cork City. It has easy access via the South Ring Road.
• The CIT Crawford College of Art and Design and the CIT Cork School of Music are located in city centre campuses.
• The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) is located in Ringaskiddy. This is approximately 10 miles from Cork City.

There are three main types of accommodation to choose from:

1. Lodgings/Self Catering Lodgings
2. Shared Houses/Flats
3. Student Apartments/Hostels

Lodgings/Self Catering Lodgings 
The Accommodation Office provides a register of lodgings for the academic year. This register is updated throughout the year. Many houses are within walking distance of the college and includes breakfast, evening meal and light supper. Prices are approximately:

• Single 5 day: €120
• Twin 5 day: €90
• Single 7 day: €140
• Twin 7 day: €110

• All bills are included in the price
• You will have two good meals a day.

Self Catering Lodgings
Where a student lives with a family but has use of the kitchen to cook meals. Prices are approximately:

• Single room: €80
• Twin room: €70

Shared Houses/Flats
A list of houses/rooms in houses is available throughout the year and this updated regularly and especially during the summer months. As there is a high demand for this type of accommodation, it is advisable to contact the Accommodation Office regularly for an updated list. The approximate price per week is:

• Single room: €85
• Twin room: €70

Student Apartments/Hostels
There are a large number of student apartments in close proximity to the Institute. It is advisable to look into this option early in the intended Academic Year. Bookings should be made directly to the apartments. Payment is normally made in two instalments. The approximate price range per academic year is €2,700 – €4,500. The cost depends on what type of room you choose (Standard Single, Single Ensuite, Double Ensuite, Twin Standard, Twin Ensuite etc). The average number of rooms per apartment is 3, 5 or 7. Students are advised to look at apartments before booking and to read leases carefully before signing them.
